FL Studio is a popular and powerful music production software that an Akai MPC complements very well. With any piece of music production equipment, accurate timing is very important. This guide covers how to synchronize the tempo of your MPC with FL Studio, with FL Studio as the master.

MIDI Cable Connections
- Connect a MIDI cable from an available MIDI OUT of your MIDI interface to an available MIDI IN on your MPC.
MPC Renaissance and MPC Studio
This section covers syncing an MPC Renaissance or Studio running on one computer in Standalone mode, syncing to another computer running FL Studio.
On the MPC:
- Open the MPC Software.
- Open the Preferences menu.
- On a Mac, go to MPC>Preferences from the top bar.
- On a PC, go to Edit>Preferences from the top bar.
- In the Sync section, set Receive to MIDI Clock and check the Receive box under MIDI Machine Control (MMC).
- In the MIDI section, make sure the MPC Port 1 is checked in the Active MIDI Inputs section.
In FL Studio:
- Click on the OPTIONS menu at the top left of the screen and select MIDI Settings.
- In the Output section, choose the device to which you have connect the MIDI cable from your MPC.
- Enable Send master sync.
- Select the Synchronization type to MIDI Clock.
- Close this Settings window and press the PLAY button. Your MPC should now be synced with FL Studio.
MPC5000 and MPC2500 with MIDI Beat Clock and MIDI Machine Control (MMC)
On the MPC:
- Access the MIDI/SYNC menu by pressing MODE, then PAD 9 (MPC2500) or PAD 8 (MPC5000).
- Press F2 to access the SYNC menu.
- Set Sync In to the corresponding MIDI input port on the MPC, which you connected a MIDI cable to earlier.
- Set MODE to MIDI CLOCK.
- Set Receive MMC to ON.
- Press the MAIN button to return to the main menu.
- Press PLAY on the MPC. You will now see Waiting for MIDI 'Play' on the MPC display.
In FL Studio:
- Click on the OPTIONS menu at the top left of the screen and select MIDI Settings.
- In the Output section, choose the device to which you have connect the MIDI cable from your MPC.
- Enable Send master sync.
- Select the Synchronization type to MIDI Clock.
- Close this Settings window and press the PLAY button. Your MPC should now be synced with FL Studio.
MPC500 with MIDI Clock and MIDI Machine Control (MMC)
On the MPC:
- Access the MIDI/SYNC menu by pressing MODE, then PAD 7.
- Turn the DATA wheel until you arrive at Sync.
- Press the down CURSOR button.
- Turn the DATA wheel until you arrive at Slave.
- Press the SEQUENCE button to return to main menu.
In FL Studio:
- Click on the OPTIONS menu at the top left of the screen and select MIDI Settings.
- In the Output section, choose the device to which you have connect the MIDI cable from your MPC.
- Enable Send master sync.
- Select the Synchronization type to MIDI Clock.
- Close this Settings window and press the PLAY button. Your MPC should now be synced with FL Studio.
MPC1000 with MIDI Clock and MIDI Machine Control (MMC)
On the MPC:
- Access the MIDI/SYNC menu by pressing MODE, then PAD 9.
- Press F2 to access the SYNC menu.
- Set Sync in to the corresponding MIDI input port on the MPC, which you connected a MIDI cable to earlier.
- Set Sync out to OFF.
- Press the MAIN button to return to the main menu.
In FL Studio:
- Click on the OPTIONS menu at the top left of the screen and select MIDI Settings.
- In the Output section, choose the device to which you have connect the MIDI cable from your MPC.
- Enable Send master sync.
- Select the Synchronization type to MIDI Clock.
- Close this Settings window and press the PLAY button. Your MPC should now be synced with FL Studio.
